No animal should go without a home! Here at Furever Sunny, we provide food, shelter, medical care, and lifelong love for surrendered and rescued animals. When someone entrusts an animal to us, they can rest easy knowing their beloved companion is not only cared for, but welcomed into a home where they are always considered family and where previous owners are welcome to visit their babies anytime.
What began as Karen opening her heart and home to animals in need quickly grew into something much bigger. As a single teacher, Karen has sacrificed countless hours, resources, and much of her own income to ensure the animals never go without care. Even when it was difficult to ask for help, she continued saying “yes” to animals who had nowhere else to go. Friends and family began stepping in to support the mission, and before long, animals were arriving at the sanctuary’s door in need of safety, compassion, and a second chance.
Today, Furever Sunny is proudly a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Every fundraiser, donation, and act of support goes directly toward animal care and is managed through the sanctuary’s nonprofit account with oversight from our trusted board members. While the sanctuary has grown through community support, Karen still personally supplements many of the sanctuary’s expenses out of her own pocket to make sure every resident receives the care they deserve.
The animals and I thank you for your support!

Sunny was the horse Karen bought as a teenager for showing. Instead of using the money she had been saving for a car, Karen spent it on Sunny on her 16th birthday. Her parents were NOT happy, but she couldn’t have been happier.
After a few years of showing, Karen realized Sunny had too many health issues to continue. Knowing no one else would give him the love and special care he needed, she retired him and gave him a life full of love instead. Sunny became more like a giant puppy dog than a horse, following Karen around the yard everywhere she went.
Sadly, Sunny passed away in January 2022, just a few months before his 27th birthday. Karen was heartbroken after caring for him for 16 wonderful years.
That same April, the sanctuary moved to a new farm. Previously known as "The White House Animal Sanctuary", the new property called for a new name. Karen couldn’t think of a better way to honor Sunny’s memory than renaming the sanctuary after him.
And so, “Furever Sunny” was reborn.
